Registration How do I register my child for Githens?
1. Contact the Office of Student Assignment at 560-2059 to find out if Githens is in fact your child’s district.
*****If you are coming to Durham Public Schools for the first time, you must go to the Office of Student Assignment to complete the necessary paperwork.
2. Once you know Githens is your district, come to the Githens counseling department to complete the necessary paper work.
**YOU MUST BRING A COPY OF YOUR LEASE OR MORTGAGE and should bring your child’s birth certificate and immunization records if available. Optional, but helpful, items to bring include report card from previous school, copy of IEP (if applicable), EOG or other standardized test scores, and social security card.
3. TRANSFER DURING THE YEAR-follow the previous directions. You must bring all required materials from #2, as well as, WITHDRAWAL form from previous school. You cannot enroll at Githens until you have officially completed the withdrawal form, turned in all your textbooks, and paid all fines at your previous school.
How do I withdraw my child from school?
1. Parents must come in to request to withdraw their children.
2. Students will take withdrawal form to their teachers to receive grades and to turn in textbooks.
3. Once students have all teachers’ signatures and have paid necessary fines, a member of the counseling staff will complete the withdrawal process.
4. You CANNOT enroll in another Durham school without officially withdrawing from Githens.
