Athletics

Ticket-to-Play Sessions for Winter 2026-2027 Sports

1. Friday, November 6, 2026 at 4:00pm until 5:30pm

2. Monday, November 9, 2026 at 4:00pm until 5:30pm

3. Ticket-to-Play will also be before each day of tryout

Tryout dates are listed below

All students wanting to try-out for Winter sports need a new ticket-to-play.

If you tried out for a fall sport and already submitted a hard copy of your physical, you do not have to attend the ticket to play session (make sure you a green check mark in Dragonfly and your physical is current). In this case you can just see Mr. Collins to get a new ticket at school beginning Thursday November 5th. Parents do not have to be present.

Things you will need to do in order to receive a Ticket-to-Play: Go to the Githens Athletics website at https://www.githensathleticzone.com/ 

1) Complete online registration for Dragonfly account by clicking Athlete Registration Link at the top of the screen (blue banner) and follow the directions.

2) Turn in a hard copy of Physical Examination, Medical Eligibility forms and all other forms not uploaded to Dragonfly account.

3) Attend a Ticket-To-Play Session to turn in hard copies of forms and get everything checked.

4) Once your Dragonfly Profile is Green and 100% complete you will receive a ticket-to-play and be cleared to attend tryouts.

Winter Sports Try-outs:

Girls Basketball

  • November 10th , November 12th, November 13th (No School November 11)

  • Pick up in Githens bus parking lot, entrance at 3791 SW Durham Drive

  • 3:45pm – 5:00pm, after school when the athletes are dismissed, the team will meet in Mr. Collins’ classroom (6th grade hall).

Boys Basketball

  • November 10th , November 12th , November 13th (No School November 11)

  • Pick up in Githens bus parking lot, entrance at 3791 SW Durham Drive

  • 5:15 – 6:45pm, after school when the athletes are dismissed, the team will meet in Mr. Jacks’ classroom (Applied Arts hall).

Wrestling

  • November 10th , November 11th , November 13th (No School November 11)

  • (Pick up in Githens bus parking lot, entrance at 3791 SW Durham Drive)

  • 3:30pm – 5:30pm, after school when the athletes are dismissed, the team will meet in Dr. Swartzer’s classroom (7th grade hall).

Cheerleading

  • November 10th , November 12th , November 13th (No School November 11)

  • (Pick up at the front of the school entrance at 4800 Old Chapel Hill Road)

  • 3:30pm – 5:30pm, after school when the athletes are dismissed, the team will meet in Ms. Harris’ Room (Applied Arts hall)

Note: Ultimate Frisbee is a club sport and not a DPS Sport, therefore ultimate frisbee athletes do not have to take part in the ticket to play process. Information regarding ultimate frisbee sign up will be forthcoming from Triangle Ultimate

Wrestling Interesting Meeting on Thursday November 5thth from 3:45-4:15 in Mr. Wagner's Room 612.
